Her breakthrough came when she was cast in the role of Emily Fields. The critics as well as her fans were impressed with her performance. The actress starred in the psychological thriller series 'You,it garnered more attention. In addition to acting, she has ventured into writing. Together with Michaela Blayne, she co-wrote an adult novel called Bliss. Shay Mitchell was raised in Ontario with her parents Mark Mitchell & Precious Gonzalez. Her birth date was 10th April, 1987. Her mother is a Filipina as is her father, and she is of Irish as well as Scottish roots. Mitchell is the cousin of Lea Salonga, famous musical theater actress and singer. Mitchell was a student at Rockridge Secondary School before moving onto West Vancouver Secondary. In the final stages of her teenage years, she was already modeling for various businesses across the globe. After traveling through Barcelona, Bangkok and Hong Kong she went back to Toronto, where she studied acting.
